Welcome to the first Hearing Valley newsletter!
The Hearing Valley project, launched in January 2025, has gotten off to a strong start, and the hearing laboratory built as part of the project has opened its doors on the premises of the University of Eastern Finland.
The first year of Hearing Valley has included, among other things, the project’s launch event as well as the construction and commissioning of the hearing laboratory. In addition, two co-creation workshops were organized during the year, bringing together companies and collaboration networks to develop the operations of the Hearing Valley network and to plan pilot projects.
Hearing Valley’s first pilot project was carried out in collaboration with the TrueHear innovation project, which focuses on developing a platform for self-measurement of hearing. During the pilot study, conducted from November 2025 to March 2026, 18 study days were organized and approximately 130 participants took part. The pilot demonstrated that Hearing Valley’s facilities and equipment are well suited for versatile hearing research and that the facilities are accessible. The study received a great deal of positive feedback, and the strong interest in the research was also evident when all available appointment slots were filled almost immediately following the publication of the recruitment announcement in November.
Upcoming events
During the spring, we will carry out a pilot study in collaboration with the hearing aid manufacturer Audmet Oy and the Wellbeing Services County of North Savo. In the pilot, hearing aids will be fitted at Hearing Valley’s facilities for patients recruited through the wellbeing services county, and the possibilities for remote adjustment of the devices will be tested.
In addition, we will organize the third co-creation workshop on 4 June 2026 from 8:30 to 12:00. The workshop will review pilot projects carried out at Hearing Valley as well as a regional skills needs assessment conducted as part of the project. All companies and networks interested in Hearing Valley’s activities are welcome to participate.
